Why is a hay moisture meter necessary?

Accurate moisture readings prevent overheating, mold, and dry matter loss during storage. It’s a critical tool for maintaining feed quality and minimizing spoilage-related losses.

What are the return and replacement policies?

This product includes a 1-year hassle-free warranty from Parts World USA, covering repairs or replacements for any defects or malfunctions. For any assistance, our customer support team is always here to help.

How do I properly use the hay moisture meter?

To use the device, insert the probe fully into the center of the bale to measure moisture levels. For accurate results, take multiple readings from different areas. Comprehensive instructions and best practices are provided in the included user manual.

What type of batteries does it use, and how long do they last?

The moisture meter operates on four AA alkaline batteries, which are included in the box. Battery life depends on usage frequency. For optimal performance and to prevent leakage, we recommend removing the batteries during long periods of inactivity.

Is the product tested before shipping?

Yes, every unit undergoes thorough quality and functionality testing prior to dispatch to ensure it meets our high performance standards. This ensures you receive a reliable, fully functional product right out of the box.

Can this moisture meter be used for grains or other materials?

This moisture meter is specifically designed and calibrated for fibrous materials such as hay, straw, and forage. It is not intended for use with grains, soil, or other non-fibrous substances, as this may result in inaccurate readings.

Is the device durable and suitable for all conditions?

Yes, it features a rugged ABS body and stainless steel probe for field durability, delivers instant readings, and includes a backlit display for easy use in low-light environments.

Reliable & Easy to Use on the Farm

Super accurate and easy to use! The manual is written in great English, unlike the Chinese sellers. I asked the seller a question on email and received a response quickly.

The steel probes feel durable, and the display is easy to read even in bright sunlight. I'm impressed by how well it's built and how quickly I can get the moisture and temperature readings!

I love that I received batteries with it as well, so that I could begin using it straight away because I was receiving some hay that day itself. It’s now an essential tool on our farm to ensure our hay doesn't get moldy or become super hot!

Seems durable, a good value for the money and well made.

Accuracy I’ll compare to my hay dealers expensive moisture reader.

Help to test the moisture of hay

This hay moisture tester accurately monitors the moisture content of hay to help ensure its quality. It's easy to use—just install the battery and it's ready to go. However, many small-scale farmers still rely on their experience to judge hay quality rather than using such devices. As technology continues to evolve, the use of instruments like this may gradually become more widespread.

availability/cost of hay of more concern than moisture content

I'm sure this device is fairly accurate. I ordered it to test the rolls of a friend who uses many more large rolls of Coastal Bermuda than I do. I thought he'd be interested since he takes a scientific approach when it comes to breeding his livestock.

He and his family have farmed all their lives without the use of a moisture gauge. He chooses what rolls to put out based on when he stored them and how they look. Some years he gets three cuttings. When there is a drought, both he and I and others who live out this way are more concerned about where we can obtain hay and at what price. I've never heard anyone talk about moisture content or heard or seen anyone check rolls of hay with a moisture meter to determine the price they would be willing to pay. If someone says a roll will cost you $60, you either pay that or go without hay. He told me he would never use such a device and depends on his farming knowledge to know which rolls need to be put out and when.

I think this moisture meter is probably more suited to large producers of hay, feedlot operators or bulk purchasers of hay who are in a position to negotiate price based on age of rolls and nutritional content, people who are much more scientific when it comes to feeding livestock than small family farmers and ranchers who are set in their ways.

I have worked with wood most of my adult life. There are moisture meters available for checking the moisture content of wood. I have never owned one. I also don't know of anyone who works with wood as a hobby or who is in construction who owns a moisture meter.
